The Rickenbacker 4003 is instantly recognizable as an all time classic in both looks and tone. Known for its ringing sustain, signature Ricky treble punch and balanced underlying bass response, the 4003 has a sound and vibe all it's own. Due to production restraints, Rickenbacker basses have become more and more difficult to get a hold of over the years. Luckily, Wildwood Guitars has gone to great lengths to ensure that we have a constantly refreshed inventory with the latest and greatest offerings from Rickenbacker, just for our exceptional customers. We invite you to pick up a 4003 for yourself and discover why there's nothing quite like a Rickenbacker.
Tonal EvaluationAttention, fans of all things British and bass! This Rickenbacker is quite a unique piece of machinery! Though the trademark Rickenbacker growl is immediately apparent upon attack, what happens afterwards is what sets this 4003 apart. As the note decays, a woody midrange-heavy sustain comes through the speaker. No one will ever mistake this for a dark-sounding bass, but it is quite round for a Rick. The treble pickup has plenty of nasal upper-midrange snarl, and engaging the push-pull vintage switch hollows the sound out quite nicely. The neck pickup can sound downright dubby with the tone rolled off (throw some flats on there and you could probably handle a Bob Marley cover gig) and woofy yet articulate with the tone on ten. A fantastic bass for any player that wants an even more midrange-y take on the classic Rickenbacker sound!
