Epiphone Limited Edition Tommy Thayer ‘White Lightning’ Explorer
The Spaceman ComethA player of Tommy "Spaceman" Thayer's caliber needs a truly spectacular guitar to handle the demands of playing with KISS. If you're a member of the hardest-rocking band in the known universe, you need killer axe, and the Tommy Thayer "White Lightning" Explorer is more than up to the task. All great guitars start with great wood and great electronics, and this one is no different! The warmth of the mahogany body works wonderfully with the crispy, crunchy tones generated by the Seymour Duncan JB pickups. Also, the glued-in mortise-and-tenon neck joint gives these guitars a Spinal Tap-esque amount of sustain!
Though these Explorers sound radical, they're not just studio guitars; in fact, they were designed to be live workhorses, too! They have buttery 1960's-style Slim Taper "D" neck profiles that make ripping crazy solos as easy and natural as banging your head to "Detroit Rock City." This comfy neck is home to 22 medium jumbo frets that further facilitate shredding as well as a fantastic set of Mini-Grover Rotomatic tuners with an 18:1 ratio. Hey, you can't waste time tuning on stage with KISS, right?
Of course, you also have to look good when you're playing with KISS, and Tommy Thayer's signature model doesn't disappoint in that regard, either. The custom White Metallic finish looks clean and mean with the 7-ply binding on the top, and the chrome PVC pickguard only adds to the overall swagger. KISS fans will surely love this guitar, but anyone looking for a dependable Explorer that sounds great will want to rock and roll all night with the Tommy Thayer "White Lightning" Explorer.
