Gibson Memphis 2019 ES-335 Dot P-90
Dot-BloodedWildwoodians, we recently received a guitar that gave us a fever of 103, and we invite you to check it and see! For 2019, Gibson Memphis has mashed-up two of our favorite models, the ES-335 Dot and the ES-330. Basically, it's an ES-330 with a center block that looks and feels like an ES-335 Dot. Now, we don't see semi-hollows with P-90s from Gibson too often, so these guitars are a rare treat indeed! Let's take a closer look and see why they made me so excited that I began this overview text with an awful Foreigner pun.
First things first: the ES-335 Dot is one of Gibson Memphis's flagship guitars for a reason. It marries the classic feel of a late fifties ES-335 with modern fit and finish, and it provides this inspiring combination for an incredible value. The rounded neck profile is comfortable enough to deserve a book's worth of sonnets describing its incredible playability and chunky feel, but I don't have that much time, so we'll have to settle for prose in all-caps: THIS NECK FEELS GREAT! Add in a modern gloss finish and killer electronics, and one thing becomes abundantly clear: the ES-335 Dot splits the difference between new and old in quite an inspiring way.
Of course, this guitar IS called the ES-335 Dot P-90, so let's talk electronics. Let's break it down mathmatically: two Memphis Historic Spec P-90s plus a maple centerblock and a maple neck equals an entirely new flavor of Gibson tone! The ES-335 Dot P-90 has the woody, earthy midrange, warm lows, and chiming highs we expect from an ES-330, but with a bit more muscle and sustain. The high end is also a bit crispier because of the maple neck, and you can hear more harmonic overtones across the board. While it may not be quite as dry and clear as an ES-330, it more than makes up for it with increased resonance! All in all, it's quite an intoxicating sonic cocktail.
We are proud to present the ES-335 Dot P-90 to our exceptional customers. Its classic feel and stylish looks are enough to warrant giddiness among guitar nerds, and its unique combination of wood chemistry and electronics gives it a sound like nothing else out there. We are sure the ES-335 Dot P-90 will provide you with years of delight, and we are excited to hear about the musical adventures it inspires you to embark upon.
