Taylor Guitars Wildwood Adirondack 856ce 12-String
A Fresh Take on an Old FavoriteSeveral years ago, it was difficult to imagine anyone improving upon Taylor's vaunted 800 series. Most people would be terrified to try and fix something so decidedly unbroken, but Andy Powers is not most people. He built his first guitar at age eight, and he's had his nose to the grindstone ever since. So, the redesigned 800 series is a celebration of a storied tradition by a builder with twenty years of experience, but it it also injects that tradition with oodles and oodles of youthful energy. This combination of innovation and experience has resulted in a truly stunning final product.
To give the 800 series a tonal facelift, the esteemed Mr. Powers developed the revelatory Advanced Performance bracing system through an incredibly involved, laborious design process. Though their main goal was to generally increase warmth and midrange projection for each guitar in the 800 series, Powers and the team at Taylor found the exact perfect placement of each brace on each of Taylor's body sizes to emphasize the natural tonal strengths of each shape. So, the bracing on a Grand Auditorium will be different from a Dreadnought, because those two guitars do different things!
The obsessiveness didn't stop there, though--they even recalculated the ideal thickness of every top, back, and side of every guitar, and they decided to finish each piece of wood with a very thin polyester gloss finish to optimize projection. Also, each body size features side bracing to help improve connection between the top and back to increase frequency response. Speaking of which, Taylor only utilizes protein glue for the 800 series, which creates the strongest possible connection between each piece of wood to ensure maximum volume and resonance. This doesn't even take into account the redesigned ES-2 System--which delivers truly incredible plugged-in tone--or the stunning new aesthetic updates like figured maple binding, an Indian rosewood pickguard, and an abalone rosette.
Sprinkling in a Little Wildwood MagicPart of the reason why the Wildwood team gets along so well with our friends at Taylor is that we both have a tendency to look at exceptional instruments and say "This is good, but how can we tweak it?" So, naturally, we couldn't resist asking the build team at Taylor to sprinkle a little bit of fairy dust into the mix to create a Wildwood Adirondack edition of the 800 series. We feel that the Adirondack bracing further magnifies the focused, clear voice of the Sitka top and gives these guitars world-class richness and clarity. We are truly excited to share the fruits of our collaboration with our fantastic customers, and we hope you find the Wildwood Adirondack 800 Series as delightfully inspirational as we do!
