Tom Murphy is a legend in our industry. Over the years, Tom's relentless dedication to replicating the magic of vintage instruments has made him an authority in the guitar world, and all you need to do is look at his list of clients to see proof of his skills. Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Gary Rossington of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joe Walsh of the Eagles, Dickey Betts of The Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton and Peter Frampton have all called on Tom to apply his signature magic to their guitars.

So, when our friends at Gibson offered us the opportunity to join such an illustrious list of collaborators, we simply couldn't resist. Now, after months of careful preparation and development, Wildwood Guitars and the Gibson Custom Shop are proud to unveil the Wildwood Spec by Tom Murphy Les Paul Standard Series.

You can see Tom's passion, artistic flair and eye for detail in the historically-accurate plastics, historic serial numbers and stunning Murphy-Burst finishes that grace each one of these guitars, but their appeal goes far beyond the tangible aspects of guitar design. Tom Murphy has imbued these guitars with a vintage mojo that is hard to quantify but impossible to miss. His talent and dedication practically seep through every pore of the wood, and the resulting instruments are some of the most accurate Burst recreations we have EVER played.

The Magic is in the Details

The Wildwood Spec by Tom Murphy Les Paul Standards are so much more than meets the eye. We began by hand-selecting premium maple tops and Indian Rosewood fingerboards, and we carefully matched them to give each instrument its own unique visual aesthetic. Then, Tom did the rest with his wizard’s touch. He painted each and every one of these instruments completely by hand, and they also feature his ultra-accurate top carve, hand-stamped hangtags, all-hide glue construction, and reinforced metal jack plates. To complete the package, each of these Les Pauls features our proprietary Wildwood Spec Custombucker pickups, which we believe offer the ultimate vintage PAF sound. These phenomenal instruments have been personally crafted to look and sound as authentic as humanly possible, and we believe this dedication to the details is why they capture the mojo of our favorite vintage Les Pauls with such jaw-dropping precision.

More Options Than Ever

Of course, we couldn’t stop with just one finish or just one tribute to just one year of production. We are proud to offer reissues of the Les Paul’s 1958, 1959 and 1960 incarnations, because we couldn’t bring ourselves to pick just one model to celebrate! Additionally, we worked directly with Tom to develop three stunning finishes: a Murphy Sunburst, a Murphy Teaburst, and a Murphy Lemonburst, each of which features a meticulous replication of a UV fade out of a traditional sunburst. Wildwood Guitars is honored to offer these exceptional instruments to our exceptional customers in both gloss and aged finishes for a total of six distinctive looks.

This Murphy-aged monster is in beautiful shape! It doesn't have any cosmetic flaws to report other than a little bit of aniline dye bleed in the binding, and it comes with its original hardshell case as well as a certificate of authenticity signed by Tom Murphy.
