Heirloom-Quality Tools

PRS’s Private Stock is near and dear to Paul Reed Smith in both a philosophical and physical sense. Next to Paul’s office in PRS’s Stevensville factory, there is a door that leads to a nigh-mythical place known simply as “the Vault.” Walking into the Vault is like stepping through a portal into a guitar player’s wildest dreams. Throughout his career, Paul has stockpiled the finest cuts of everything from Brazilian rosewood to figured koa to redwood burl (and, of course, every possible variety of high-grade maple). After years of obsessive collecting, the Vault is replete with gorgeous, rare woods that exhibit tremendous resonance.

A few times a year, Paul is kind enough to let us browse the Vault and hand-select the woods the Private Stock will use to build guitars for Wildwood. So, we make the most of the opportunity and spend hours comparing tops and tap-testing bodies to find the best mixture of aesthetic beauty and sonic sweetness. As a result, these guitars are the cream of the crop, and they wouldn’t look out of place in an art gallery.

But, beauty and rarity are only half the Private Stock story. Though these instruments look like works of art, they showcase PRS’s famed pitch-perfect build quality, and they are as gig-worthy and dependable as anything out there. Paul Reed Smith himself said that his goal with the Private Stock program is to build instruments beautiful enough to be family heirlooms that also work wonderfully as tools that musicians can use to make a living. So, if you pass a Private Stock PRS down to your kids, and they pass it down to your grandkids, chances are that they’ll be able to gig with it.

That is the true magic of PRS’s Private Stock guitars. They have the visual flair to induce drooling on a widespread scale AND enough sonic horsepower to excel on the stage and in the studio. We invite you to browse through our selection of Private Stock Guitars and find an heirloom tool that inspires you.
