The Gibson Memphis ES-345 is the epitome of elegance and grace. The ES-345 was first introduced in 1958 as an upgraded version of the incredibly popular ES-335. While the two models may appear similar, there are some striking differences. First, the 345 featured a multi-position “Varitone” switch positioned near the tone and volume controls, which added numerous variations and combinations of inductors and capacitors to color the instruments overall tonality. At the time, the ES-345 also featured an optional stereophonic output jack. Aesthetically, the ES-345 took the concept of the 335 to the next level with gold-plated hardware, large split parallelogram fingerboard inlays (an homage to the ES-175), and three-ply binding, adding a level of unparalleled elegance. Overall, the historic ES-345 is an absolutely incredible instrument that sounds just as gorgeous as it looks!
